Opportunity Description

The Manager, Payroll is responsible for providing operational, managerial, and strategic direction for the payroll function of a healthcare organization and its subsidiaries. This role requires the cultivation of a strong, customer-focused environment, with an emphasis on driving accurate and timely payroll results in compliance with state and federal regulations. This includes administering timely and accurate payroll processes, payroll tax filing, staff supervision, audit support, and various union/non-union regulatory reporting. The Manager, Payroll will ensure adherence to organizational policies and multiple collective bargaining agreements.

Job Duties

Evaluate, develop, recommend, and implement payroll policies, processes, and system enhancements to improve business operations.

Analyze complex transactions, identify issues, and collaborate with internal teams to identify causes, assess risks, and implement solutions.

Manage all operations related to absence management, time tracking, and attendance functionality, including training and updates.

Interact with various departments and timekeepers to verify time and attendance accuracy using the Workday system.

Ensure timely communication of changes to payroll policies, systems, and regulations to employees and customers.

Maintain current knowledge of and compliance with applicable local, state, and federal wage laws and reporting requirements.

Establish internal controls to ensure the integrity of personnel and payroll data.

Supervise the payroll team, providing training and evaluation to enhance performance and establish a collaborative team culture.

Oversee weekly, monthly, and year-end payroll processes, ensuring deadlines and goals are met.

Verify accuracy of payroll uploads, including employee reimbursement, higher class pay, uniform allowance, and other special pays.

Review and monitor payroll items for all entities, including on/off cycle payrolls, audits, and analysis.

Prepare, mail, and maintain W2 reporting.

Ensure accurate and timely payroll tax filings.

Participate in the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.

Serve as the lead in various audits, developing strategies, and preparing documentation.

Partner with the human resources benefits team to ensure accurate deductions from employees' wages.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience & Skills Required

-7 years of professional experience in payroll and time and attendance management.

3-5 years of payroll applications experience (e.g., Workday, ADP, Peoplesoft, Oracle Financial).

Minimum of 5 years of management experience.

Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) Certification from the American Payroll Association, strongly preferred.

Knowledge of FLSA, DOL, and regulatory aspects of payroll and taxation.

Strong payroll accounting skills.

Proficiency with MS Office suite, especially Excel and Word.

Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships across the organization.

Highly organized with attention to detail and the ability to adapt to and lead change.

Quick learner, efficient with time-sensitive/high-pressure deliverables.
